About THE UNFINISHED BREATH
Troubadour Jaufre Rudel is the direct ancestor of these texts, which took centuries to write. Breath is inherent to lyric which can never be finished. Breath is inspiration, the spirit that instills, and comes from as far in time and space as Pasargadae. Take a deep breath : hold it, not for one but two volumes! Elegies and laments, memory and half-erased recollections, depths and mysteries never to be explained, like the evening grasses where brother lost a finger. Not language but its nemesis–ordered chaos, not poetry but the inchoate origin of sound. These texts bring us to the still-birth of Light.
Mexican-American poet Iván Argüelles, an octogenarian now whose life has sprawled from Mexico City DF, to Los Angeles and Minnesota, from Chicago to New York and Italy and finally to Berkeley where he resides as a retired librarian, is the author of many poetry publications, among them : The Invention of Spain, Madonna Septet (2 vols.); Comedy , Divine , The; The Death of Stalin; FIAT LUX and most recently the 2 vol. The Unfinished Breath. His 1989 publication, Looking For Mary Lou won the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. He has also received awards from the Before Columbus foundation. Often classified as a surrealist, his poetry transcends that definition. Iván Argüelles is the winner of the William Carlos Williams Award and the American Book Award
